2000 AUV Competition
For
the 2000 AUV competition, we had to build a submarine that was
capable of being released by a team of navy divers, and with the
touch of a button send the vehicle on its way.
The competition was
judges with points, for every requirement the vehicle completed it received
a certain number of points as displayed in the table below. We broke
the mission down and prioritized each requirement based on
difficulty and point benefits, as I will list now.
-
Performance
Measures
-
Autonomous
Control - Necessary for all other aspects of the mission,
therefore will be required to achieve before anything else.
-
Determining the
ping rate - Does not require being near the beacon however
is necessary for all other performance points.
-
Flash Rate - if
using the ping we are able to triangulate the beacon then we
can home in on it and once in close proximity determine the
flash rate.
-
Return the
Recovery Marker - Obviously if this can be achieved all
other requirements will be met and therefore it places low
on the list.
-
Time -
Insignificant unless multiple teams return the Recovery
Marker.

The Difficulties of all
the requirements for the performance measures only yielded partial
points of the autonomous control for our team, however we did really
well with our Journal Paper and Static Judging, which left us with
6th place as viewable in the below points breakdown.

Competitors - Ordered from first place to last
We learned a lot from
this mission and plan to take this knowledge to the next level in
the following year's competitions.
