2001 AUV Competition
This year is similar to
last year, we must build a submarine that is capable of autonomously
completing a mission without any human interaction.
The mission is different
though, it is far more complex. First the vehicle must locate and
navigate through a PVC gate. After traversing the gate it must
locate a beacon emitting an acoustic ping and a flash at random
intervals. Upon locating the beacon it must recover and retain a
marker attached to the sonic buoy. In the immediate vicinity of this
marker are four man made objects. These objects need to be
identified, and then the object at the shallowest depth must be
determined, and the depth of the object must be retrieved. Upon
completion of these requirements the vehicle must return to its
starting position with the recovery marker and depth information.
