Components Breakdown Click on the image in order to get more information regarding a specific component.
Altimeter Marine Electronics Model 5001 500 kHz Altimeter. It is capable of 1 mm resolution up to a range of 25 meters.
Speed Controllers Novak Super Roosters. Rated for 150 amps of current and are reversible. The roosters are based on a reliable H-Bridge and are controlled using RC pulses. Their original purpose is for RC Car Electric engines, however these are more than adequate for our trolling motors and have worked flawlessly as long as they are kept dry.
Computers We have two computers this year, a Mobile PIII 700 MHz, and a Crusoe 533 MHz. These are both PC/104+ computers that utilize less than 15 watts of power. The submarine only needs one computer, thus we are using the PIII 700 MHz in the primary submarine, and the Crusoe is our backup.
Compass We use a Precision Navigation TCM2-50 3-axis Digital Compass. This compass provides a true magnetic heading as well as pitch and roll from an inclinometer that is accurate to a tenth of a degree from +/- 50 degrees.
Batteries We use all NiMH batteries this year. Our Main batteries power the engines alone, and are composed of 24 D-Cells, amounting to two parallel packs equaling 19 AH at 15 Volts. The internal battery is composed of 12 C-Cell NiMH batteries and provides 3.8 AH at 15 volts.
Connections All through the hull connections are made on the rear back plate and use Brad Harrison Waterproof connectors. These connectors are IP67 rated and can handle 1000PSI spray down.
Hydrophones We use four Reson TC4013 passive hydrophones in order to listen for the pinger and to calculate an angle to the pinger/center of the pond.
Pressure Ashcroft K1 Pressure transducer. Outputs 0 - 5 Volts scaled to a range of 0 - 15 PSI. This pressure sensor gives us the ability to measure our depth up to approximately 35 ft.
Engines We use two Motorguide ET22 trolling motors as our main thrusters and two heavily modified rule 1100 bilge pumps equipped with CPU fans for propeller blades as our vertical thrusters.
Cameras RF Concepts Submergible Bullet Cameras. These provide an NTSC output as well as a ring of LEDs within the camera and are completely sealed.
Designs The entire vehicle was meticulously designed and thought through before anything was ever built. This has created a very professional and clean platform to work on.
